Overview
Running Time: 2 hours approx with an interval
With Special Guest Neil Kinnock.
Neil Kinnock was leader of the Labour Party from 1983 to 1992, modernising the party and leading it to the brink of victory in 1992 when even the opinion polls thought Labour had finally won.
He led Labour through some of the most difficult times they’ve faced, famously expelling the Militant tendency. During tumultuous scenes at the 1985 party conference, he is heckled during his leader’s speech, something unthinkable now in this stage-managed era of party politics.
He defined the political landscape of the 1980s as much as Margaret Thatcher did and represents her most formidable foe. He remains one of Labour’s few big beasts, still as articulate and poetic today as he was at his height.
Matt Forde (as seen on Jon Richardson Grows Up, Have I Got News For You, 8 out of 10 Cats & This Week) hosts a comedy night combining topical stand-up and a big interview with a political heavyweight. A celebration of politics with “a first-class comic” (The Guardian).
An unashamed political fan, Matt had a career in politics before becoming a stand-up comedian, radio presenter and writer. As well as hosting his own show on talkSPORT he has appeared on The Now Show and The News Quiz. He also writes for 8 Out Of 10 Cats, The Last Leg, Stand Up For The Week and Russell Howard’s Good News.
The Political Party podcast is regularly in the Top 10 comedy podcasts on iTunes with over 30,000 subscribers.
