About Us

Opened in September 2012, St. James Theatre is a unique, award winning arts complex in central London. With a 312 seat main house presenting plays, musicals and revues, and a 120 capacity Studio in cabaret style offering over 250 shows a year, the St. James has established itself as the vibrant cultural hub of the rapidly developing Victoria area and a major player on the wider cultural scene.

A theatre of choice for the best regional transfers, the perfect space for mid-scale musicals and musical revues, or the first stop for ambitious productions with designs on the West End, we stage shows that excite us, that marry great writing with visionary artists and that will appeal to theatregoers of all ages.

A commercial enterprise without subsidy, we produce, co-produce and receive shows alike. In our first 18 months we have had two West End transfers (Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Tell Me on a Sunday; Urinetown: The Musical), two Olivier Award nominations (Cinderella, Tell Me on a Sunday), six What’s On Stage Award nominations and an Offie award nomination. Productions have been helmed by such renowned directors as, Sir Trevor Nunn, Max Stafford Clark, Sir Jonathan Miller, John Caird, Jamie Lloyd, David Grindley, Tamara Harvey and Blanche MacIntyre.

The artistic programme is of course at the heart of establishing a new theatre, but so too is the audience experience and here the St. James excels. We try to deliver a balance of new and interesting work, plays and musicals that are both thought-provoking and entertaining.

Enjoying the character and intimacy of a cabaret space, the versatility of a theatre, with the acoustics of a concert hall, the St. James Studio has also established itself. With a judiciously curated programme of cabaret, jazz, comedy, musicals, and theatre, often in the same week, the Studio is now widely, recognised as a champion of new musical writing, new cabaret, lunchtime theatre and political comedy.

With a first class bar and catering facilities and in an atmosphere of designer comfort, the St. James is also the ideal environment for AGM’s, conferences, book and product launches, showcases, workshops and whole range of corporate and creative interaction.

The St. James is run by a team dedicated to making the theatre one of the best experiences in London. Please visit us soon and enjoy all that the St. James has to offer.
