30 March 2013
Part of St James Studio Cabaret Weekends
Dusty Limits, master of contemporary cabaret and Time Out cover star, presents Darkling, singing songs of love and loss, doom and despair. Mostly for laughs. First performed at the 2010 Edinburgh Fringe, Darkling features a clutch of original compositions and a handful of twisted covers of the likes of Nick Cave, Tom Waits and Philip Jeays, all strung together by Mr Limits’ mordant observations on melancholy and mortality. With musical direction by Michael Roulston.
‘The Trailblazer.’ (Time Out)
‘One of the foremost practitioners of the art of cabaret.’ **** (Scotsman)
‘His vocals are astonishing, with incredible power and subtlety.’ **** (Fringe Guru)
‘Wonderfully wicked and ironically uplifting, Dusty Limits is a fallen angel worth paying a visit to.’ **** (The Skinny)
‘It’s one thing to have a superb voice, which Dusty Limits has. It’s quite something else to put it consistently to the service of songs that tell stories, with melodies that thrill, and lyrics that challenge and provoke. He is a wonderful cabaret artist.’ (Artshub)
